Information Collection and Use
MicroSurfer is the sole owner of the information collected on this site.  We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement.  MicroSurfer collects personally identifiable information from our users, such as name and email address, at several different points on our website and from within software downloaded through our website, but in all cases, your personally identifiable information is never at risk of being shared with third parties without your prior consent.  Please be aware, however, that we will release specific personal information about you if required to do so in order to comply with any valid legal process such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order.

Registration
In order to complete the installation process of software downloaded from this site, users must submit a registration form to our website.  During registration users are required to provide their user name and email address as well as agree to specific terms and conditions for using the software.  We also generate an ID that uniquely identifies the user’s hardware configuration.  This information is used for internal purposes only and will not be made available to third parties without the user’s consent.  This information cannot be used to discover the hardware in the user’s computer, only to ensure that the program cannot be installed on multiple machines with only one registration.

Cookies
We occasionally use “cookies” on our website in order to simplify processes for our users, and to gather information to improve our website.  A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information about a user’s session.  Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site.  If a user rejects the cookie, they may still use our site.  The only drawback to this is that the user will be limited in some areas of our site.  For example, the user will not be able to participate in any of our Sweepstakes, Contests or monthly Drawings that take place. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our site and using our software.  Some of our business partners use cookies on our site and with our software (for example, advertisers).  However, we have no access to or control over these cookies.

Log Files
Our log files contain the IP address of every computer that reaches our website.  We use these IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement on our site, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.  IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information; they are somewhat like a telephone number used to reach your computer.  All the IP address tells us is that an individual machine reached our website.

Tracking Web Usage
MicroSurfer does not track user surfing activities. However, the freeware version of MicroSurfer downloads advertising information from our server to your computer when you start a MicroSurfer session. Since the paid version of MicroSurfer is not advertising supported, it does not need to contact our web server in this way.

Sharing Information
We share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person; it is simply information about general trends and behaviors of our visitors as a whole, and never about a single user.

Co–Registration
We occasionally partner with third parties to provide specific services. When completing the registration process for products downloaded from this site, the user may sign up for these services.  This is entirely optional and if the user chooses to do this, it is separate from the MicroSurfer registration and the user will be asked to share information that is necessary for the third party to provide these services.  Once an approved third party holds the user’s information, the use of that information is subject to the usage policy of the third party.

Links
This web site contains links to other sites and using the MicroSurfer software you access links on many other web sites. Please be aware that we, MicroSurfer, are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites.  We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site or visit other sites with our software, to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information.

Mailing Lists
If a user wishes to subscribe to a mailing list (a newsletter, or special offer, for example), we ask for contact information such as name and email address.  This information is separate from any other information collected, and will only be used to distribute our mailings to you.  You may Opt-Out of these mailings at any time, and instructions on how to do this are sent with every mailing distributed.

Surveys & Contests
From time-to-time our site requests information from users via surveys or contests.  Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this information.  Information requested may include contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age level).  Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes.  Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of our site and software.

Security
This website takes special precautions to protect our users’ information.  When users submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and off-line.

While we use SSL and/or other methods of encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user-information off-line.  All of our users’ information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices.  Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information.

Furthermore, ALL employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices.  Every time new policies are added, our employees are notified and/or reminded about the importance we place on privacy, and what they can do to ensure our customers’ information is protected.
